It’s when he was 5 years old that Charles has decided to become a race driver. To do so, he had to be crafty… One day, he made his dad, Hervé, believe that he was sick. As a result, no school the day after. But in the morning, little Charles was in perfect shape and his dad had to keep him busy… So, Hervé decided to take Charles with him to visit his old friend Philippe Bianchi, Jules Bianchi's father. At that time, Philippe was a manager of the Brignoles go-kart racetrack in France. Philippe asked Charles if he wanted to try a go-kart for the first time. Charles’ father was surprised as he thought Charles was too young. But Philippe had already seen that in the past with Jules and he knew how to do. Held by a string maintained by Philippe, Charles went on track! After one lap only, he was released from his link to Philippe and he finally drove all afternoon long. On his way back home, in the car heading to Monaco, Charles was very clear with his dad: « Daddy, that’s what I want to do when I’ll be older ». The next Saturday, little Charles had his own go-kart, bought to Philippe Bianchi. From that date, as soon as he had free time, Charles went driving on his debut track. Often, he hit the track with the Bianchi brothers. In a way or another, Brignoles’ circuit had no longer secrets for the three young drivers.
